Avera Health advises shopping for health care plans

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Avera Health Plan officials remind South Dakotans that open enrollment for marketplace insurance is open until the end of January, a shorter period this year.

Administrator Deb Muller says Avera plans to see a lot of activity because Dakota Care is out.

Muller says there will also be some significant rate increases that some insurance policy holders will experience so they'll be encouraged to got out and shop during this open enrollment.              

Muller says with the federal marketplace there are subsidies that can reduce the cost of monthly premiums.
