SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM) – A state prison inmate from the State Penitentiary has died from suicide.
Inmate Elijah White Magpie was hospitalized Oct. 28 after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Jameson Annex to the South Dakota State Penitentiary after committing self harm. White Magpie was found leaning into a bed sheet that was around his neck.
He was moved from a Sioux Falls hospital to a hospice care provider on Nov. 5. He passed away Nov. 7.
White Magpie, age 23, was serving a 25-year sentence from Pennington County for aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.
An autopsy is being conducted.
