SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Consumer watchdogs are warning veterans to be aware that they can be targets of scammers.
Dan Hendrickson with Better Business Bureau says thieves stop at nothing to take a veteran’s money.
Hendrickson says con artists pose as someone from the V-A to get credit card or bank information.
He says retired veterans are particularly vulnerable because they’re on a fixed income.
Hendrickson advises veterans to always be skeptical. He says veterans are consistently victimized by con artists but help is available. Veterans and non-veterans can take advantage of the Better Business Bureau's Scam Tracker.
Go to bbb.org/scamtracker to report a suspect offer and get more information about scams occurring nationally or in your area. BBB Scam Tracker offers a heat map that gives users the ability to see where scams are, allows them to search for fraudulent activity by keyword or within a certain timeframe, track a particular type of scam or even see how much money has been lost.
