SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - On this Veteran’s Day, Senator John Thune honors one of the “Greatest Generation,” his father and World War Two Navy pilot, Harold Thune.
He fought on the U-S-S Intrepid in the Pacific Theater.
Thune say his father is a humble man and that he and his siblings would never have known he was a hero unless their mother had told them. Harold joined the Navy in July 1942 and says that there was always a mystique to flying.
Thune says the President signed legislation earlier this year that gives veterans the mental health resources they need when they return home.
