SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The urban deer herd in Sioux Falls is still a problem as thirty animals were killed last month alone by vehicles.
Julie DeJong with animal control says officials harvested thirty deer last year.
DeJong says the goal is not to remove all the deer from city limits. She says of the deer harvested in a controlled hunt last year, many were skinny and some had disease. She says that's the result of too little food in a small ecosytem.
A survey on the deer problem in Sioux Falls is available on the City’s website for public comment on herd control. A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 24 at the Outdoor Campus.
