Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls first snowstorm of the season had a split personality. National Weather Service Forecaster Todd Heitkamp says that 13-plus inches fell on the southside of town, which was double the accumulation on the northside, near Sioux Falls Regional Airport.
Heitkamp says his office was getting alot of calls from people questioning why the forecast for this storm seemed so far off from what actually happened. Heitkamp disagrees. He says maybe the accumulations were a little bit off, but other predictions were pretty "spot on."
It was slow going on the roads all over the Sioux Empire. Well over 100 accidents - and counting - were reported.
The Regional Airport had problems. The storm kept three South Dakota college football teams - USD, SDSU, and USF- all cooling their spikes at the terminal. The USF Cougars were actually stranded inside their airplane for about four hours when the plane couldn't get back to the gate for some reason. The team wound up walking through the snow back to the terminal.
