Sioux Falls SD (KELO-AM) Six people escaped an invisible killer at their Sioux Falls home this past weekend. The Holloway family had been overcome by carbon monoxide.
Marchell Holloway says the deadly gas crept up on the family. She remembers just barely calling 9-1-1 before blacking out. Her husband was able to get himself and one of their kids out of the house before collapsing.
Sioux Falls Police Officer Ryan Chase helped save Mrs. Holloway and the three other kids, including 15-year-old Xavier Holloway. He says he felt as if he'd been "teleported" to safety before completely blacking out.
Mrs. Holloway says her family wouldn't be here if not for Officer Chase. She says him showing up so quickly was itself a "miracle.
Now she is telling everyone to make sure they have carbon monoxide detectors at home.
Sioux Falls Fire/Rescue says carbon monoxide kills nearly 400 people in their homes each year.
