SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The House will take up a transportation bill today and John Thune says Senate approval may come, at the latest, early next week.

Thune says the bill is long overdue and critically important to the economy.

Thune says the measure, among other things, creates a freight funding program in which South Dakota is going to receive $8 million dollars anually.  He says it also rewards states for providing 24-7 sobriety programs, an effort in which South Dakota is a leader.

Thune says the act will put an end to short term transportation patches with a five-year highway bill.
