Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Construction activity continues to break records in Sioux Falls for the third year in a row. The construction valuation for building permits issued by Building Services in 2015 reached $676,292,291 for the year. 2014’s record was $619.5 million, and the previous record set in 2013 was $588.2 million.
“The builders, investors and dreamers have never been more confident in Sioux Falls, and back-to-back-to-back record breakers prove that. Good things still to come!” says Mayor Mike Huether.
Projects creating this year’s record include additions to The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society’s National Campus, Sanford’s Imagenetics Medical Building, Augustana University’s Froiland Science Complex, the Midco® Aquatic Center, Southeast Technical Institute’s new laboratory building, the Edith Sanford Breast Center, and more.
In 2014, a total of 14,945 building permits were issued, which was a record. In 2015, 12,091 building permits were issued, still far above the yearly average before 2014.
“Building is taking place in every corner and in every industry in Sioux Falls,” says Mike Cooper, Director of Planning and Building Services. “Our city is growing and thriving, and I don’t see an end in sight. We are expecting 2016 to be another big year.”
