"Spitting rocks" snow in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls City Streets Chief Galynn Huber says the city doesn't often declare a snow alert for only three or four inches of snow, but this snow is different.

Huber says his crews have told him that it's the wettest snow of the season and with falling temperatures there will be a quick freeze on streets, sidewalks and driveways. Huber says it will sound like your "spitting rocks" using your snow blower over the weekend.  He says that considering the type of snow and the deep freeze to follow, a snow alert was the best way to go.

The heavy wet snow made driving a real challenge even though it was not as heavy as previous storms this winter season. When the wet snow freezes it could form a very hard crust on your driveway and driveway entrance.  The snow gates on city plows don't always work perfectly and could leave barriers in front of your driveway.
