PIERRE, SD (KELO AM) – South Dakota’s state Capitol will be highlighted in blue Saturday night to honor the state’s law enforcement officers.

Saturday is national Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert of Washington state, who is the co-chairman of the House Law Enforcement Caucus, has encouraged the nation’s Governors to recognize and thank law enforcement officers on that day.

At the South Dakota Capitol, the front torch lights will shine blue, which is the color of law enforcement.

“This is a wonderful way to honor all law enforcement at all levels,” says Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. “Not only is it important to thank the officers, but their families as well.”

Blue light will illuminate the front doors of the Capitol Saturday night and will be visible from Capital Avenue.

Jeff Holden, Commissioner of the South Dakota Bureau of Administration, says, “We hope that scenery change at the Capitol that night will remind everyone of the incredible service law enforcement provides to our state and nation.”
