SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The traditional Christmas shopping season is just hours away and financial experts say develop a plan.
Marley Prunty-Lara with Lutheran Social Services says emotional spending can push folks over the financial cliff.
Prunty-Lara says a plan gives you an idea of how much you can afford to spend. She says that's the most important step. She says if you don't have a plan and you buy whatever looks good, the January credit card bills are overwhelming.
Prunty-Lara says look for shopping deals, consider giving creative gifts, pay with cash or set a three month limit to pay off credit cards.
She says the holidays can also be used to educate your children on responsible spending and credit habits.
