SIOUX FALLS, S.D,. (KELO AM) - Lawmakers approved changes to how they’ll set South Dakota’s budget giving citizens more opportunity to weigh in.
State Senator Mike Vehle of Mitchell says the changes mean legislators can decide earlier in the session how much money the state has to spend.
Vehle admits the changes will make it tougher on the Appropriations Committee, but he adds it will make it a much more deliberative process for the legislature to take a closer look at all the ideas that out there.
The changes mean a budget can be drafted over two weeks, a process that happens more quickly now.
