SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls School District sent an email to the families of students concerning an Instagram message that indicated a threat of gun violence.
Administrators and the police investigated and found that it was not a credible threat to Sioux Falls schools.
District spokeswoman DeeAnn Konrad says the original message was generated regarding a school in Florida and through social media it made its way to Sioux Falls.
The email emphasized that there is no threat here and that students are safe.
The District also reminded parents to talk with their student about using social media and encourage them to spread the positive things going on in their school. Tell them to avoid feeding into fear and rumors.
It was a high school student that brought the Instagram message into the office this morning.
