SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A Sioux Falls man is charged with assault and kidnapping for not letting his girlfriend leave an apartment for two days.
Officer Sam Clemens says 28-year-old Charles Melvin Roubideaux is accused of beating and punching the 33-year old woman. Whenever she tried leaving the West 5th Street apartment he would grab her, keep her in and allegedly beat her again.
Clemens says the woman told investigators that this went on for two days. Eventually she saw an opening and got outside but only about twenty feet before Roubideaux tackled her and began strangling her again.
Clemens says he forced the woman back into the apartment and allegedly threatened to kill her.
The woman’s screams for help brought police who arrested Roubideaux in the apartment. He's charged with kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault and false imprisonment.
