SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A blizzard warning is in effect until four tomorrow morning for the tri-state area.
Meteorologist Matt Dux says snow should start falling in Sioux Falls around mid to late morning with a total of 6 to 8 inches by tomorrow.
Dux says to expect northerly winds up to 45 mph. He says the wind and snow will create blizzard conditions making travel, at best, difficult this afternoon. Visibilities are expected to be a quarter mile or less.
Dux says parts of northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota could get a foot of snow.
He says once snow starts falling in Sioux Falls it will come down at a rate of 2 to 3 inches an hour at times.
Dux says we can expect a mix of snow. He says for the first six hours snow will be wet and heavy. As temperatures fall tonight and the system moves east the snow will be lighter and fluffier.
Northerly winds up to 45 will produce near zero visibility in rural areas and many roads may become impassable. The Weather Service says the strongs wind and heavy, wet snow may lead to power outages especially in rural areas. Many roads may become impassable today into tonight.
