SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Anticipate a snow alert in Sioux Falls late this afternoon or early tonight.
Fleet Manager Gaylyn Huber says once the system moves out crews will start plowing residential streets using snow gates. He says crews have not yet found a snow depth where they can't use snow gates. In the season's first snow, Huber says parts of south Sioux Falls got 15 inches and while the snow gates couldn't get it all, the residents were happy with what was removed because it lightened their load.
Sioux Falls Fleet Manager Gaylyn Huber says now that the snow is falling, sanders fitted with plows will work the emergency snow routes.
Huber says those sanders with plows will work the emergency snow routes while it continues snowing. Snow may end before midnight in Sioux Falls.
Huber admits the commute home this afternoon will be dicey. The snow and winds out of the north up to 45 will produce zero visibility in open and rural areas.
Once a snow alert is issued don’t park on streets until they’re plowed curb-to-curb. Don't crowd snow plows during the commute this afternoon.
