SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The holiday shopping season brought a flurry of fake twenty dollar bills to Sioux Falls.
Officer Sam Clemens says police and the Secret Service recovered 17 phony twenty dollar bills last weekend.
Clemens says investigators don’t know if they’re connected. He says many of the descriptions of the people passing the bills vary widely. Investigators know that there's a bunch of bad bills out there, but they don't know if it's the work of an individual or a group.
Clemens says a clerk at a Get N’Go recognized a fake twenty given to her and the suspect fled. He says bad bills feel differently than legal currency and some stores have a pen that can be used on the bill to check if it's real.
