SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Not one clerk sold to the underage buyer in a liquor compliance check of 22 northeast Sioux Falls off-sale businesses last night.
Lieutenant Kyle Hoekstra says the would-be buyers use their own driver’s licenses. Hoekstra says the buyers, between 18 and 20, are also told to answer any questions the clerks ask honestly.
Hoekstra says sometime clerks are too busy and neglect to check the buyer's identification. Then, he says, there are other times when the clerks check the identification and sell anyway.
Hoekstra says the random checks are meant to protect our community’s youth.
Hoekstra says it's not the first time that a liquor check was 100% observed, but he couldn't say what that track record is.
