SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - According to a WalletHub study, South Dakota is the fourth most dependent state on the gun industry.
Jill Gonzalez with the personal finance website says the state ranks last in gun-control contributions and second in gun-rights contributions, per capita, to members of congress.
Gonzalez says about 35% of households in South Dakota have guns and the state has the sixth highest gun sales in the country.
The report shows South Dakota ranks sixth nationwide in the number of firearms-industry jobs per capita, ninth in total firearms industry output per capita and eleventh in total taxes paid by the firearms industry per capita.
South Dakota ranks sixth in terms of National Instant Criminal Background Checks per capita.
The study looked to determine which state depends most on the arms and ammunition industry both directly for jobs and political contributions and indirectly through gun ownership.
The study considered jobs, ownership, background checks and contributions in the fifty states.
