SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The House State Affairs Committee today sent to the 41st day a bill that would exempt South Dakota from daylight saving time.

Watertown Representative Roger Solum called the bi-annual clock changing a safety issue.

Solum says part of the public service and marketing of the time changes is to also check the batteries in your smoke alarms.  The comment drew a smattering of laughter from the gallery.

Bill sponsor Republican Senator Betty Olson says she and many of her Prairie City neighbors are “darn sick” of switching clocks.  She says it's difficult adjusting to the change

A similar bill failed last month in the state senate.  Olson was the main backer of both bill.
