Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) - A proposed new program for gun owners that already have a concealed permit could streamline their next gun purchase. Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says the system is being reviewed at the federal level by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs says there’s an important safety feature of the program - random re-checks of gold card holders.
The Sheriff says those found with disqualifying violations will have their permits revoked. It could be in place next year. Several other states already have similar programs.
