Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) - The South Dakota Department of Public Safety announced Tuesday it is investigating a crash between a Sioux Falls Police SUV patrol vehicle and a Ford Escort. The mishap took place shortly after 10 PM Saturday. DPS spokesman Tony Mangan says the teen females in the Ford Escort were under the bridge at I-29 and Madison Street, making a turn on a green arrow. mangan says the PD Officer in the Ford Explorer ran a red light and collided with the small car. The two in the Escort were injured, the 14-year-old passenger with serious injuries in intensive care. The 17-year-old driver had minor injuries. Extrication was needed to free the victims. No word on the condition of the officer, or if charges will be filed.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to look into the mishap.
An unrelated crash earlier Saturday wrecked an HP Cruiser, after a motorist failed to move over. The trooper recieved minor injuries in that crash.
