SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -Traditionally, voter turnout for non-mayoral elections in Sioux Falls is between 14% and 16% percent.
City Clerk Tom Greco hopes for higher turnout next month because the city and counties enable residents to get to their polling place. Greco says he wouldn't be willing to make a bet specifically on turnout for the April election.
Absentee voting for the Sioux Falls City and school board election starts Monday morning, March 28.
Greco says to vote absentee in person you must go to the Minnehaha County Auditor’s Office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. That holds true for residents in southern Sioux Falls living in Lincoln County.
But, Greco says, you can submit an absentee ballot application by mail to your county auditor. He says in that case you will want to send that mail-in application to your county auditor in either Minnehaha or Lincoln County.
Monday is also the deadline to register or update registration for the city-school board election.
Precinct polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12th. To find out if your registration is up to date or where your precinct polling location is, log onto the South Dakota Secretary of State's website at https://sdsos.gov/elections-voting/default.aspx.
