Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) There were some unhappy campers when the top seed University of South Carolina women's basketball team learned it was playing in the NCAA Regional in Sioux Falls.
It was clear on social media, that some Gamecock fans thought it a slight. Sioux Falls?!? But the town must be growing on them. Some were seen throwing snowballs and making snow angels outside their hotel.
They must have enjoyed the big 'Welcome Gamecocks Nation' banner drapped above the lobby of the Sheraton.
Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether says he's proud of the South Carolina fans for "embracing" the people of Sioux Falls.
South Carolina will be joined by Syracuse, Ohio State and Tennessee in the big national event March 25 and 27 at the Sanford PREMIER Center.
In Tournament play Friday, Syracuse upset #1 seeded South Carolina 80 to 72, and Tennessee's Volunteers defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 78 to 62. The stage is set for final play with the Orange facing the Vols on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM at "The Denny"
