Lincoln, NE (KELO-AM) Fresh from taking the University of South Dakota's women's basketball team to the WNIT National Championship, Head Coach Amy Williams is going home.
Her alma mater, The University of Nebraska has hired Williams as its new Head Women’s Basketball Coach. The Spearfish, South Dakota native played at Nebraska from 1994 to 1998 and graduated with a degree in biology and mathematics.
"What an honor to return home as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Nebraska," said Williams in statement released by the University, "My family and I are thrilled to be joining this outstanding University and the Lincoln community."
Williams will be formally introduced at a press conference on Tuesday, April 12 at 10:00 am in the lobby of the Hendricks Training Complex.
The last four seasons at South Dakota, Williams led the team to two regular season Summit League championships, one Summit League tournament championship, and the 2016 WNIT Championship, while posting an overall record of 96-44.
South Dakota State University feels Coyote pain because it was only days ago, that the Jackrabbits lost their men's basketball coach of 21 years, Scott Nagy. He went off to Wright State in Ohio.
USD says a search for a replacement for Williams will begin immediately.
