Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) - It wasn't all smooth going in the city election Tuesday night, as vote counting machines had their share of "usual issues", but the count from all 67 precincts is in! City Clerk, Tom Greco says the turnout was low, a total of 12,826 votes for just 11.3 percent. The results:
SF CITY COUNCIL
AT-LARGE: Teresa Stehly
NE DISTRICT: Patrick Starr
NW DISTRICT: Greg Neitzert
SW DISTRICT: Marshall Selberg
Sioux Falls School Board: Kent Alberty and Carly Reiter
All of the proposed measures to amend the city charter were approved by a wide margin. They include:
Amendment A: Allows a council member to run for two additional terms if serving a partial term.
Amendment B: Will allow any new Mayor serving after the current term expires to enroll in the South Dakota Retirement System rather than the City Pension System.
Amendment C: Directs that the city does recodfiy its city ordinances, following state law to recodify every 20 years.
Amendment D: If a mayor is appointed to finish out an unexpired term, after that term, they can then run for two more full terms; only if the unfinished term is already at least half complete.
Amendment E: Will make all twelve city department directors subject to the advice and consent of the City Council after the appointment by the mayor.
Amendment F: Adds sexual orientation to the "prohibited class list", meaning it cannot use that as a grounds to terminate someone's employment. It also changes the word "handicap" to "disability" on that list. prohibiting favoritism or discrimination in any City employment position.
