SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls School Board yesterday gave tentative approval of the fiscal year 2017 budget of $149 million dollars, a 9.5% increase in State Aid Formula funding.
Superintendent Brian Maher says the bulk of that increase is going toward increasing teacher pay.
Maher says the District's budget "remains a mostly status quo, bare-bones plan void of frivolous spending on unproven programs."
The Capital Outlay levy will drop about 10 cents to $2.90 and the Pension Levy has been eliminated. The impact of the FY 2017 budget on the homeowner's property tax rate is a drop in the projected levy from $8.97 to $8.39 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The average school property tax increase over the last 17 years for a typical house in the Sioux Falls School District is about .38% per year.
Because there was a snow day February 2nd the Sioux Falls School Board yesterday revised the calendar at the end of this semester.
Administrator Bob Jensen says semester tests will be moved to June 2nd and 3rd. He says the last day of school will be June 3rd and teacher work day will move to June 6th.
