SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A witness to this morning's gunshots fired into the air near Axtell Park Middle School saw the shooter in a red vehicle and police stopped a red Nissan SUV a short time later but they did not find a weapon.
Lieutenant Dave McIntire says a 21-year Sioux Falls man was arrested on outstanding warrants.
McIntire says investigators do not have a motive in the incident and it doesn't appear that the shooters were firing at anybody and nobody was injured. He says if the people that were stopped could have been identified they would have been charged but they obviously were not.
McIntire says police recovered small caliber shell casings from the scene.
Meanwhile...McIntire says police are concentrating forces in the Pettigrew Heights area due to the increased gun play in the neighborhood.
McIntire says 36-year-old Taylor Vincent Smith was stopped Saturday for a tail light violation and officers found drugs and a handgun.
He says police seized 58 grams of marijuana, 8 grams of methamphetamine, 2 grams of cocaine and a 9mm handgun. Smith is also accused of threatening a victim by text saying he would use the gun against him.
Smith is charged with possession of a firearm while committing a felony, distribution of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
