Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls celebrated its 50th year with a re-dedication ceremony on Wednesday.
Lincoln first opened its doors on Cliff Avenue in April of 1965.
"The curriculum has changed and evolved and programs have come and gone, but throughout it all one thing has been constant: the dedication to excellence and academics and activities for students and their families." said Lincoln Principal Valerie Fox at the re-dedication ceremony in the high school gym.
During the ceremony, the school also welcomed to its new home, a statue from the Downtown Sculpture Walk of President Lincoln reading war dispatches as his son, Tad, played at his feet. The statue was purchased through a fundraiser headed by businessman Kevin Nyberg, a Lincoln alumnus.
A special guest at the ceremony was Spearfish sculptor Jim Maher, who created the Lincoln statute. He said that a big part of Lincoln's life, especially during the terrible war, was time spent with his boys.
The sculpture of Honest Abe and son Tad was unveiled in the High School lobby
