Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether wants everyone in the city to help police battle rising crime.

"I need a 173,300 people looking out for everybody else," Huether said on Tuesday's Greg Belfrage Show on KELO-AM, "if someone's garage door is left open at 9 o'clock at night, dang it, walk across the street and tell them to close their dang garage door."

South Dakota's largest city has been plagued with a spike in burglaries. Huether believes most Sioux Falls crimes can be traced to drugs, alcohol, or mental illness.

"If you see something that looks funny, it smells funny, it feels funny, the odds are good it's funny," as Huether put it, encouraging citizens to be on the alert in their neighborhoods.
