SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission yesterday approved a rezoning request for Cedar Ridge Development surrounding a large riding arena and stables a mile and a half north of Renner.
County Planner Scott Anderson says the development sits on eighty acres.
Anderson says plans call for up 18 single family homes. He says those residences will be built around the riding arena and stables so the residents can have horses.
The Planning Commission rejected the request and member Mike Cypher says it sets a bad precedent. Cypher calls it a density zoning issue.
Cypher asked the commission to consider a similar circumstance at the now closed I-90 race track outside of Hartford. He suggested that someone could buy that property, build houses around it and have their own private race track. He says it's not that much different.
The County Commission vote unanimously for the development.
