SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The chase for murder suspect Jared Stone lasted six days, covered five states and ended last night in southeast Wyoming when he was cornered on I-80 by Nebraska and Wyoming State Troopers.
Scott Rolstad with the U.S. Marshals Service says Stone left Mission, South Dakota, last night and after authorities caught up to him he fled for 70 miles.
During the high speed chase, Stone managed to fire a few rounds at the troopers, no one was hit and no word if he hit any vehicles.
Nebraska Troopers chased Stone into Wyoming and it was just across the border that he was stopped. There was a small standoff forcing the closure of the interstate for a short time. Stone eventually surrendered. He's being held in Cheyenne, Wyoming, awaiting extradition back to Sioux Falls.
Authorities say after Stone fled Sioux Falls he went to Worthington, Minnesota; LeMars Iowa, and Mission, South Dakota, where the Marshals learned he was staying at a residence there.
Sioux Falls Police Captain Blaine Larsen says several people helped Stone. 24-year-old Mercedes Red Bear was arrested yesterday on a $500,000 warrant, accused of harboring the fugitive.
Larsen says police are looking for 31-year-old Desiree Marya Sully of Sioux Falls for also aiding Stone.
