SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Downtown Trolley is in dire need of local help now that federal funding has dried up.
Brienne Maner says Downtown Sioux Falls provided 54 % in operating expenses last year and the trolley needs a minimum $32,000 to run on a limited schedule.
Maner says without additional partnerships, the trolley service will either need to be reduced even farther or eliminated entirely.
She says DTSF plans operating the trolley slightly fewer hours each day in order to further reduce expences. At a minimum, even if DTSF raises $32,000 for the service to continue, fare would have to increase to $2.
For the fare to remain at $1, DTSF will need to raise $42,000.
Maner says some progress has been made in reaching this year's goal, but more pledged donations need to be secured to fund the trolley by May 27.
