Renner, SD (KELO AM) - Crews from Renner Fire Rescue, Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, MedStar Ambulance and the South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to a fatal one vehicle accident Saturday night.
Renner Fire Chief Mike Schmitz says the accident occurred near Renner about 11:30 Saturday night, just east of the Big Sioux River, on 258th Avenue and Packard Lane.
Earlier, law enforcement had reports of an erractic driver in the area.
The 27 year-old man was driving a 2013 Honda CR-V. He was alone in the vehicle. Investigators say he was eastbound on 258th Avenue, when he hit a guardrail and cable, crossed the road, ending up rolling several times into a ditch. He was alone in the small SUV, and was not wearing a seatbelt. The injured man was transported in a ground ambulance to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he died.
The man was was ejected from the vehicle in the accident. Renner Public Works personnel say the vehicle hit an above-ground gas valve, resulting in a minor leak that was capped.
A helicopter was caled in to use to search the area for any other possible passengers.
Name of the victim has not been released. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
