SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Students at the University of Sioux Falls will have fewer excuses for not studying at the school library when USF's new residence hall is completed.
"The University of Sioux Falls will be one of the few campuses in America where students are living in the same building as the university library." says USF President Mark Benedetto. The new $10.4 million residence hall near 22nd Street and Summit Avenue will be attached to the Mears Library. And once the new residence hall is finished, USF plans to refurbish the library building, making it more attractive to students.
Benedetto says site prep for the project could begin as early as this week. They have to demolish the old, smaller residence hall at that location to make way for the new building. Since the new residence hall will be taking away parking capacity, USF wants to move or raze several rental homes it owns near campus to build an expanded parking lot.
The old homes are on a one-block stretch of 25th street between Prairie and Summit Avenues. USF is expected to ask Sioux Falls City Council Tuesday night to allow it to vacate that part of the street.
