SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Local law enforcement promises saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints through New Year’s Day.

Captain Jim Hookman, with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office says the effort can save lives.

Hookman says it's not just drunk drivers officers will look for.  He says the driver on drugs, whether illegal or prescription, will also face arrest.  He says this is also a warning for holiday partiers to find another way home if they celebrate with alcohol.

The Sioux Falls police, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s  department and the Highway Patrol are combining forces to get the drunk and drugged driver off the road.

Authorities says the patrols and checkpoints will be unannounced before hand.
