SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The South Dakota Department of Transportation is making plans to modify the I-29 and 41st Street interchange and wants public input at an open house tonight at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
Engineer Steve Gramm says options include a single point interchange, like at 10th and I-229, or a new concept called a diverging diamond interchange.
Gramm says the diverging diamon is really good for handling a lot of left turn volumes at the interchang and traffic actually criss-crosses so traffic doesn't have to go through a signal.
Today's open house is from 5:30 to seven.
Meanwhile...DOT ctook public comment yesterday on the I-229 corridor with plans for improvements at the Rice Street and Cliff Avenue interchanges.
State Engineer Steve Gramm says one person said the entrance into Tuthill Park doesn't have a long enough left turn lane.
He says planners didn't consider the entrance because it's on the other side of the Big Sioux River bridge so it is out sight and out of mind. But he says it's an issue that the state and city will look into.
Another option includes shifting Cleveland Avenue east to intersect with Bahnson at Rice Street.
Gramm says the 41st and I-229 interchange is closer to shovels in the dirt than the I-229 corridor improvement.
