As Sioux Falls growth creeps further to the northwest joint jurisdiction with Crooks and Minnehaha County will come to a head.
Scott Anderson with county zoning and planning says changing boundaries demand new zoning ordinances a process he calls complicated and lengthy.
For instance, Anderson says, an animal confinement operation is not a permitted use or conditional use and is not allowed in a joint jurisdiction with Sioux Falls. He says that's one of many land use issues that will crop up with Crooks.
Anderson says Sioux Falls plans on finalizing a growth plan by mid to late August and the long process of drawing new boundaries and setting zoning can begin.
The city is providing water and sewer service to Foundation Park in the northwest corner of I-90 and I-29. Anderson says the city growth will move closer to Crooks. He says there's only 21/2 miles between the town and city now
