Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) After budgets in the the past for what he terms "quality of life" spending on the Events Center, an Aquatics Center and other big ticket items, this budget is "back to basics" according to Mayor Mike Huether. The Mayor told the Sioux Falls City Council today during a work session, that his Capital Plan addresses critical infrastructure such as streets, utilities and keeping up with growth.
Nearly 600 million dollars in items were packed into the plan, which features a catalog of items such as repir of backlogged street projects, increasing funds by 10 million dollars for water reclamation and study of fire and emergency services response. Money for the build out of the River Greenway project was also proposed, including the planned "Levitt Pavilion", which would host over 50 events downtown each year.
Huether also said the City's bond rating, indicating financial health, is among the top numbers.stating he belives the City is practicing sound financial procedures, He added that debt per citizen in Fargo ranges near five thousand dollars per citizen, while Sioux Falls, has roughly two thousand dollars per citizen in debt. City council members will now have time to study the plan, and give input.
