SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELLO-AM) On December 28, 2013, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to 4204 East Walker Way for a reported structure fire. Firefighters found a fire burning in the garage attached to the house and the house full of smoke. Firefighters had the fire extinguished in approximately ten minutes.
The residents of the home were alerted to the fire by neighbors and called 911. All occupants of the home were evacuated before firefighters arrived. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Sioux Falls Fire Rescue. The garage suffered smoke and flame damage along with smoke damage to the house. The house did not have a fire sprinkler system.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 19 personnel on 4 fire trucks and 2 support vehicles. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by Rural/Metro Ambulance, Sioux Falls Police Department, Red Cross, and MidAmerican Energy at the scene. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to check their smoke detectors for proper operation.
