Dry, cold weather allows for clearing streets

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls street crews are increasing the salt to sand ratio today in an effort to clear residential streets.

Director of Public Works Mark Cotter says those streets have a 1/2 to 3/4's inch snowpack from repeated light snows.  Cotter says with the recovering temperatures that should arrive by the middle of next week, and the amount of traffic that will roll that new material in, we'll start to see a nice driving lane down the center of residential streets by this time next week.

Cotter says crews began the increased salt runs this morning and should cover all residential streets early this afternoon.

Cotter says it takes about five hours to sand 200 lane miles of Sioux Falls streets.

He says improved street and weather conditions will allow for filling pot holes next week too.
