Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls Police Department and Fire Department are on the last day of the Heroes Behind the Badges Blood Drive. At the time of this story, the Fire Department has the lead going at the homestretch.
"This is a great competition held during the holidays every year," said Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. "We have been doing this for 18 years and the first year we got 70 units of blood. Though there is some ribbing going on, everyone realizes it's for the good of the community."
Versteeg said that people who donate get a specially designed t-shirt and a certificate for five dollars off at Texas Roadhouse. Today people can donate at the following locations:
Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue Headquarters, 2820 S. Minnesota Ave, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Sioux Falls Police Department, 320 W. 4th St, from 8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and 12N - 4 p.m.
