SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Governor Daugaard says Health and Human Services hasn’t officially denied South Dakota’s request to expand Medicaid to cover those who make up to 100 percent of the poverty limit.

Daugaard says residents in the100 to 138 percent of the federal poverty limit can go onto the exchange for subsidized coverage.  He say those individuals would pay 2% of their income for health insurance.    Daugaard says if H-H-S agrees to the expansion the waiver process would take weeks to complete and the governor would call a special session of the legislature.  He said last week that he would consult with legislative leaders before taking action

100% of the poverty limit is $11,600 for an individual and $23,850 for a family of four
