SIOUX FALLS, S.D,. (KELO AM) - The Sioux Falls police department will hire at least 26 officers before the end of the year.
Chief Doug Barthel says the department is in the middle of a wave of retirements. He says it's not a matter of manpower shortage because the total force is down only five officers. 14 offiers will be hire this spring and another dozen will be hire in the fall.
Barthel says officers start at $46,000 a year, the benefits are excellent and it' s a rewarding and challenging career. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, have either two years of college, prior law enforcement work or a military background.
Barthel says applications are due by next Tuesday, March 18. Applications are available at the city’s website, www.mysiouxfalls.org..
