SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A standoff near Dell Rapids involving law officers and a man wanted on felony larceny and drug warrants ended peacefully when the suspect surrendered after four hours.
Authorities say 20-year-old Tahlen Bourassa holed up in a business south of Dell Rapids last night after a high speed chase. Officers surrounded the building and also monitored the situation from a helicopter and a SWAT team's armored vehicle.
Sergeant Jason Gearman admits using more manpower and equipment in the standoff than Bourassa's charges warranted. He charged with ingesting a controlled substance and grand larceny. But Gearman says they believed he was armed and paranoid.
Police say Bourassa surrendered without incident at about 9:00 p.m. and was takeb to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
