Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kick off at 2 p.m. in downtown Sioux Falls on Saturday, March 15, 2014.
Staging and destaging for this event will be on Main Avenue from Fifth Street to Second Street. This area will be shut down to traffic starting at 10:30 a.m.
The 100 block of South Phillips Avenue, in front of First National Bank, will be closed at 11 a.m. for the reading of the proclamation and painting of the shamrock.
The parade route will be shut down to traffic at approximately 1:30 p.m. The parade is expected to last approximately one and a half hours. The parade will start at Fifth Street and Main Avenue. It will go south on Main Avenue to 13th Street, east on 13th Street to Phillips Avenue, and north on Phillips Avenue to Fifth Street. Motorists entering the downtown area will be detoured around the parade route and are encouraged to use 14th Street and North Drive as alternate routes.
The “St. Patty’s Day Mile” road race will preface the parade at 1:55 p.m. Runners will start at 17th Street and Phillips Avenue and run straight north and end at 5th Street and Phillips Avenue. As a result of this event, 14th Street will be shut down to traffic for a very short time to allow the participants to cross 14th Street.
