SIOUX FALLS, S.FD. (KELO AM) - A South Dakota Highway Patrolman was responding to an injury accident when he ran a red light at 41st and Sertoma yesterday afternoon and hit a pickup.
Officer Sam Clemens says when emergency vehicles have lights and sirens on they can break some traffic laws. But he says drivers have to make sure the intersection doesn't have traffic that has the right of way. The driver of the pickup says he didn't hear or see the trooper's vehicle and trooper said he didn't see the pickup.
Clemens says damage to both vehicles is estimated at $10,000 each. The Trooper was cited for running a red light.
The male driver and female passenger in the pickup refused medical attention at the scene.
