SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - In an interview on MSNBC this morning, U-S Senator John Thune did not completely shut the door on hemp as an agricultural product in South Dakota.

Thune says he’s had concerns over hemp because of resistance from law enforcement.  But he says he's open to new research and findings about hemp as a crop.  He believes there was some money included in the new farm bill for hemp research.

He says it's an issue that continues to come up every tiime there's a new farm bill and in many state legislative meetings in South Dakota.

Thune says ultimately, the future of hemp is in the hands of South Dakotans and the legislature.

Thune was on MSNBC's Daily Rundown with Luke Russert.
