Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Enjoy the warm weather today, as a Blizzard Watch has been issued for South Central into East Central South Dakota and the Northern part of Southwest Minnesota for Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.
Northern and North-Central areas could see a foot of new snow according to National Weather Service Forecaster Mark Chenard. The immediate Sioux Falls area could see 2 – 4 inches of snow, with northwest winds gusting 30 – 40 mph at times.
Some of the cities in the Blizzard Watch area are Chamberlain, Mitchell, Brookings, and Huron in South Dakota, and Pipestone, Marshall and Canby in southwest Minnesota.
Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for the western part of the state for Monday, where snow totals of 4 – 7 inches, along with strong winds are expected.
The storm is also affecting North Dakota, with some places in central and eastern North Dakota expecting more than a foot of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Winter Storm Warnings and Blizzard Warnings have been issued for much of North Dakota for tonight into Tuesday.
In the immediate Sioux Falls area, no watches or warnings are in iffect at the moment, but up to two inches of snow is expected, along with the gusty winds. The snow is not expected to begin until late Monday.
